Complementary colors are opposite each other on the color wheel so when you put those colors together, you get more bang for your buck.  If your model has a dominant color with their look (and it doesn't matter of it's boudoir, bodypaint or even nude), place them against a background with the opposite color.  That is why this image of Lindz Crystal works so well, the red top against the green background pops.
